On New Year's Eve, two former classmates, Jirka, an entrepreneurial snitch, and Karel, a more settled man, meet by chance on the street. Jirka invites the saddened Karel to a party at his cottage and asks his mistress Jitka to bring a companion for Karel. Jitka persuades the attractive Vera, who is going through a marital crisis. However, Karel and Vera do not really hit it off, so Jirka, in agreement with Karel, focuses on Vera and "leaves" Jitka to his friend. However, his attempts to seduce Vera are not successful. What Jirka and Jitka don't know is that Vera and Karel know each other well.
